8:00 pm An Evening with Germaine Greer

Germaine Greer is so many things: a controversial agenda-setting author (infamous for writing The Female Eunuch and many other works.) A feminist icon and public figure: constantly sought after as a journalist, commentator, reviewer. An ideas person for her views on the role of women in the current world.

This event gives the audience the unique chance to hear the inside story of what enormous fun it’s been being a fearless international feminist icon and highly regarded academic through four decades of change. And you’ll be allowed to ask all those burning questions you’ve been longing to throw at the Prof…serious or lighthearted, from the point of poetry, through sex for the over 60s, to the role of women in the third world.

Expect this unique close encounter with the Prof to be candid, enlightening and highly entertaining.

7:45 pm Firestation Book Swap, November

Firestation Bookswap, as you surely know by know, is one of The Firestation’s proudest achievements.

The drill? You bring a book and brill hosts Scott Pack & Marie Phillips bring the tea and cake, and people pitch for books that they like the sound of. And brilliant authors talk, and also pitch a book that they like but want to swap, etc – and no one goes home emptyhanded.

This month we welcome our first mother and daughter line-up, Adele Geras and Sophie Hannah.

Adele is the author of over 70 books for children, teenagers and adults. Her books for us grown-ups include the bestsellers A Hidden Life and Made in Heaven.

Adele’s daughter, Sophie, writes psychological thrillers which have graced many an awards shortlist and The Point of Rescue was filmed as the ITV series Case Sensitive starring Olivia Williams.
