Description

With the beginning of Postfordist Capitalism, the re-structuring of class relationships since the beginning of the 1980s and with the advent of the new work ethics of ‘creative’ dot-com enterprises, precarity has become something more than the wish of young autonomists. As opposed to the generation of their parents, young people today perceive and experience precarity not as liberating line of flight from the constraint of bourgeois life, but as the painful state of being progressively rejected from the safety net of the middle class, into the new, enormous, expanding global lower class.

Federico Campagna’s excellent essay explores this changing dynamic with passion and rigour. ‘Happy Precarity’ is the third essay in the Critical Shorts series.
