King Creosote

Due to overwhelming public demand, King Creosote, otherwise known as Kenny Anderson returns to The Firestation following his remarkable concert here a year ago.

Consistently one of the finest songwriters working in Britain today, stubbornly remaining both at once a shining light of Scotland’s music scene and probably its best kept secret.

“Sooner or later bands always move to the city. It’s a mistake” Anderson says firmly. Never a fan of the obvious, nor the easy, the internationally acclaimed talent behind King Creosote and The Fence Collective still lives where he was born and raised, in Fife. “Up here, there isn’t any competition between bands and their little scenes that you get in cities”, he say, noting that for many years King Creosote declined to play outside of his hometown, St Andrews. “I could never see the point in spending so much time and energy travelling far to try and impress so few people into buying my records, my career has been very slow and organic”.

If fame were a contagious disease, Anderson would have been laid up with a severe dose of it years ago. From KT Tunstall perhaps, sometime backing vocalist in his first band (Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra) from the mid-1990’s. Or from his brother Gordon, founding spirit of The Beta Band and now The Aliens. Or from his Fifer compatriots from Falkirk lo-fi miserablists Arab Strap or James Yorkston a Fence Collective alumni now signed to the mighty Domino Records, a move which has been copied by Kenny, placing him now well and truly in the hierarchy of the Indie elite, with label mates such as The Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand.

King Creosote comes back to Windsor riding high on a wave of critical and commercial success following the 2009 release of his forth album ‘Flick The V’s’, this definitely promises to be one of the best shows of the year!
