Firestation Book Swap

Date: April, 19th 2024 7:45 pm - 10:00 pm

Novelist Marie Phillips and publisher Scott Pack continue to host an evening of conversation and banter in this increasingly popular literary event. You won’t hear boring speeches, the same old questions or authors reading from their latest book – but you could witness almost anything else!
Audience members are required to bring an unwanted book along with them which they will have an opportunity to swap for another. And there’s tea and cake!

This month’s guests are Jen Campbell and Sarah Salway

Jen is a poet and short story writer. She also works in a bookshop. During her time behind the counter she has had to answer lots of stupid questions. Many of these, and more, are collected in her new book, Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops. Neil Gaiman loves it and is quoted on the cover.

Neil Gaiman also loves Sarah Salway and is quoted on the covers of her first two novels, Tell Me Everything and Something Beginning With. He calls her ‘the Madonna of the book world.’ Sarah’s first poetry collection has just been published. She was our guest when we held a Book Swap at the London School of Economics but this is her first visit to our home gig in Windsor.
‘This is exactly the kind of blog-linked, local event that publishers should be really encouraging, a sort of odd cross between a public reading and a book group’ Emma Townshend, The Independent
