10:00 am Baby Botticellis

Baby Botticellis offers a unique opportunity for pre-school children to familiarise themselves with new materials and textures, explore creative play with parents and carers and have lots of fun!

We understand that not all parents/carers want to do messy and art play at home, which is why coming to an art class is so important. Children need a chance to be free creatively, and Baby Botticellis is the place to do that. We are not a toddler group, we are an art and creative messy play group, where we encourage autonomy in children, and the freedom to be creative.

Central to our philosophy is the importance for kids to make a mess, gain confidence from following their own initative and just be kids!

We’d like to welcome our new Baby Botticelli teacher, Becky;

“I have worked with children for over 16yrs, and I am a fully qualified Nursery Nurse. I also have a degree in surface design and 4 yrs at Art School. This has allowed me to learn new techniques and experiment.”

“Through my work with children I have always used art, messy and creative play. I help parents to understand that its not about whether the children have an end product, its about the process. During this process, be it hand painting, sticking, play dough or shaving foam, children have to use a variety of skills for strong muscle control, early literacy skills are developed and a good sense of self esteem, as children always receive praise for their work. Art and creative work covers all areas of the foundation stage curriculum, but it is so much more for the children than ticking a box.”

“I am a practising artist, and I am soon to be adding a new section to my own website about being creative with your child. This will run alongside these sessions, but with ideas you may want to try at home to support your child’s cretive development”.

8:00 pm Joe Black's Vile Volumes

Joe Black, dubbed ‘the king of cabaret noir’ by the Metro, invites you into a world where death is a laughing matter, where love songs are truly sickening and where the gin flows free.

Joe Black visits The Firestation with burlesque performer special guest, the funny bone tickler herself… Vie O’lette! Vie O’lette is a multi tassel twirler, shoe sniffer, funny bone tickler, burlesque tramp, occasional disco diva and full time spinster, and brings another comic edge to the evening’s proceedings with her repertoire of utterly charming and side splitting routines, she is guaranteed to crack a smile on the face of even the hardest audience member.
Vile Volumes explores the darker side of how we deal with ourselves in a series of painfully honest, hilarious and at times disturbing ditties.

Performing at Torture Gardens for New Year’s Eve 2011, touring nationally and internationally, this master of the macabre and commander of cabaret is here for just two nights; don’t miss out.

We’d like to welcome our new Baby Botticelli teacher, Becky;

Firestation Book Swap

(every third Thursday of the month)

7.45pm. A literary event with a difference

Novelist Marie Phillips (Author of Gods Behaving Badly) and publisher Scott Pack continue to host an evening of converstaion and banter in this increasingly popular literary event.
You won’t hear boring speeches, the same old questions or authors reading from their latest book-but you could witness almost anything else.

Audience members are required to bring an unwanted book along with them which they will have the opportunity to swap for another. And there’s tea and cake!

The Firestation’s Book Swap continues to go from strength to strength, with the literary festival appearances and much interest from radio and TV.

Previous authors, by the way, have included: Robert McCrum, Kate Williams, Sue Cook, Matt Rudd, Andrew Kaufman and Matt Beaumont.

Guests include:

Guardian Cartoonist Steven Appleby, Chris Wakling, DJ Connell, former political editor of the Observer Gaby Hinsliff and Shelley Harris.

7:30 pm Withnail and I

(part of the British Cult Classics season)

London: The Sixties. Two down-on-their-luck actors (Withnail and Marwood) find solace in drink and other substances. Seeking respite from their uneventful lives in between acting jobs, they escape up north to Penrith to Withnail’s uncle’s stone cottage. Faced with no modern conveniences, a bunch of oddball locals, and a surprise visit from a worryingly amorous “Uncle Monty”, their wits are tested, along with their friendship.

“The best British comedy ever made? Possibly. A masterpiece? Unquestionably.” – Ali Catterall, Film4

“It is at once a coming-of-age comedy and a fond farewell to an era.” – Xan Brooks, The Guardian

“A hilarious black comedy and already something of a cult favorite.” – TV Guide’s Movie Guide

“The wit is sharp … and the lament to times past, friendships gone and experiences lost is affecting.” - Time Out

We’d like to welcome our new Baby Botticelli teacher, Becky;

“SPRING OPEN” is the first exhibition presented at The Firestation by Print at the Park, a group of printmakers who have been exhibiting regularly at South Hill Park, Bracknell since 2009.

Last year they also held successful exhibitions in public galleries for the first time: The Runnymede Gallery, Old Windsor; The Royal Berks Hospital in Reading and the Harvey Gallery in Guildford.  The original works on display in “SPRING OPEN” demonstrate the wide range of printmaking processes used, including Lino, Woodcut, Etching, Lithography, Collagraph and Monotype.  The pieces range from the large and colourful, demanding instant attention to the small and intimate which attract closer inspection.

We’d like to welcome our new Baby Botticelli teacher, Becky;
