Don’t forget, Book Swap, The Firestation’s literary event with a difference is tonight! There’s tea and cake available for everyone, and an opportunity to swap unwanted books for new! This weeks guests are Caroline Smailes and Helen Smith: read on for more information!

Novelist Marie Phillips and publisher Scott Pack continue to host an evening of conversation and banter in this increasingly popular literary event. You won’t hear boring speeches, the same old questions or authors reading from their latest book - but you could witness almost anything else! Audience members are required to bring an unwanted book along with them which they will have an opportunity to swap for another. And there’s tea and cake!

This month’s guests are Helen Smith and Caroline Smailes

Helen is a playwright and novelist who writes books for both adults and children. He debut novel, Alison Wonderland, has recently been reissued and is absolutely bonkers. In a good way.

Caroline Smailes has spent a lot of time on television and radio recently talking about her forthcoming ebook, 99 Reasons Why, which has eleven different endings. She is also the author of four previous novels and her short story collection, Freaks!, co-written with Nik Perring, is out just in time for our Book Swap.

‘This is exactly the kind of blog-linked, local event that publishers should be really encouraging, a sort of odd cross between a public reading and a book group’ Emma Townshend, The Independent
